07 Feb Literacy and Numeracy Strategy Submission
The Dyslexia Association of Ireland has submitted its response to the current consultation being undertaken on the new Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Strategy.
This consultation is being conducted by the Department of Education and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth who are jointly developing the successor strategy to the National Strategy Literacy and Numeracy for Learning and Life 2011–2020.
The DAI submission outlines the need for better training for teachers on dyslexia and dyscalculia; the need for enhanced partnership between schools and parents/guardians; improving identification and assessment practices in schools; improved access to professional assessments; and, improved scrutiny of the new Strategy to ensure that actions are implemented and that much needed progress is achieved.
DAI will be continuing to contribute to the development of the Strategy over the coming months.
