Submission on the Review of the EPSEN Act

Submission on the Review of the EPSEN Act

The Dyslexia Association of Ireland has submitted its response to the current consultation being undertaken by the Department of Education on the review of the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs (EPSEN) Act 2004.

The DAI submission outlines the need for better systems of identification and diagnostic assessment of dyslexia and dyscalculia; improvements with regard to evidence-based support and appropriate accommodations; better resourcing of schools to provide for the needs of students with dyslexia and dyscalculia; and enhanced processes to ensure that appropriate planning and provision of support is in place, with access to an appeals process where this is seen to fall short.

DAI will be continuing to contribute to the review of this key piece of legislation over the coming months.
